RiverWalk

Last week we met up with some friends to walk the Detroit River downtown.

Felix on the big map.

The Detroit River

It was too chilly to play in the fountains, but they were fun to watch.

Shot from the Hip

I brought my camera with me on a recent walk. I was a little shy about stopping to photograph, so I kept my camera strap across my body and the lens at my hip. I just clicked away as I walked. I am pleased with the results, although they’re not at all what I expected to get. I’m not sure what I did expect.

This stonewall reminds me of Virginia.

Flamingos!

I did look through the view finder to compose this last image.

Pancakes for Papa

Yesterday was technically Andrew’s 1st father’s day. (I say technically because last father’s Day, Felix was still in my belly.)

We started the weekend by hitting the local farmers market.

This one is a little blurry, but I just loved the colors:

Sunday morning we made pancakes.

In case you can’t read my chicken scratch, here is this most simple recipe:

Whole Wheat Pancakes.

1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 egg

1 cup water

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar (optional or other sweetener like agave nectar.)

1/2 cup berries (optional – we didn’t use any berries this time)

1. Sift together powders; set aside

2. Beat egg, water, salt and sugar in a bowl. Stir into flour until just moistened. Add berries. Stir to incorporate.

3. Let batter sit at least 5 minutes.

4. Heat heavy bottom skillet over medium heat with butter or oil while batter is sitting. Cook until bubbly. Turn and cook until golden brown.

We enjoyed ours with a pat of butter, some Michigan Maple Syrup and coffee.

The pancakes were Felix and Papa approved!

We gave Papa a copy of “The Book of Dads: Essays on the Joys, Perils and Humiliations of Fatherhood” and spent the evening barbecuing in the yard with some family.

It is my hope that I am able show Andrew in little ways each day how wonderful of a father he is, how much I respect, appreciate and love being his partner. But yesterday, his 1st fathers day, I hope he felt a little extra special.
